Seoul, South Korea - Jung Woo-young, the Chief Executive of Honda Korea (www.hondakorea.co.kr,) announced on February 16 that Honda will launch its finest flagship sedan model New Legend in Korea and start full-scale marketing.
The Legend is the uppermost model in which Honda's history and technologies can be seen, and was introduced in 2006 for the first time in Korea. This New Legend will be launched in Korea for the first time in Asia with a completely new appearance of the fifth generation.
The New Legend was developed as a premium performance sedan with the concept “Smart, Exhilarating Luxury” to provide high-level performance through various cutting-edge technologies. The New Legend introduces three types of the world’s first technologies that were not available previously. It is newly born as a smart sedan equipped with Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS), Jewel Eye ™ LED headlamps that simultaneously promote design aesthetics and driving stability, and high-end audio unique to the Legend with Krell industries’ premium audio system.
The New Legend, available in four colors of silver, black, metallic or white, will be offered to the market at a price of 64,800,000 won (VAT included).
A performance sedan equipped with highest level of steering stability
The New Legend introduces the world’s first precision all-wheel steering technology (Precision All-Wheel Steer, or P-AWS) and demonstrates optional driving stability which minimizes the impacts of the external environment, including road condition. P-AWS is a system that independently controls the left and right rear toes of the rear wheels when required to control directions or speed in straight driving, cornering, lane changing or braking and allows to adjust the moving angle in various situations. This provides easy and quick control of steering wheel with stable operation and speed control, ultimately enhancing the driving stability.
The New Legend’s power train is also one of the changes. The 3.5L direct injection i-VTEC V6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission reflect Earth Dreams Technology™, Honda's unrivaled next-generation power train technology that realizes fuel efficiency of 9.7km/ℓ (downtown 8.1km/ℓ, express highway 12.6km/ℓ) based on government-authorized combined fuel efficiency, along with a strong power performance. At the same time, it also presents the sense of dynamic and free driving by applying a paddle shift and a sports mode.
State-of-the-art technologies represent the ‘Honda of Technology’
The New Legend’s various ultramodern technologies provide driving convenience and safety befitting the reputation of Honda's flagship sedan. The technologies on the New Legend include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Low-Speed Following (LSF), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS) and driver injuries are prevented by automatically warning about, adjusting and maintaining the car’s distance from the car ahead to reduce the potential for accidents. In addition, an omni-directional vision and even safety in blind spots are acquired through the introduction of a Multi-View Camera System (MVCS) and Blind Spot Information (BSI).
Excellent safety of Honda’s high-end flagship sedan
Honda's newly developed Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE™ Body II) body structure uses aluminum, achieving a reduction of weight by 34.5kg, and the highest level of stability by applying 1500MPa class high-strength steel panels covering 55% of the entire body. Safety is further reinforced by adding an extra airbag for knees in addition to the six existing airbags in the driver’s seat to protect the driver, improving the ability to reduce injuries to the driver’s legs. Through such measures, Honda has acquired Top Safety Pick+, the highest safety rating, in the collision tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In addition to this, the detailed specifications of an electric parking brake, brake hold system and safety belt with built-in electronic-controlled pretensioner also enhance the safety of the New Legend.
Internal and external styling emphasizes the premium specifications
The New Legend boasts a sophisticated, elegant style by reflecting an aerodynamic design in its lines, ranging from the hood to the tail and side lines. On the other hand, the front and rear sides demonstrate a balanced external view with bumpers that feature a sense of stability, and a wide roof. The luxurious Jewel Eye™ LED headlamps, with the shape of a jewel and unique to the New Legend, are characterized by eight optical lenses on each side with wider lighting angles compared with existing headlamps to provide high visibility.
The interior provides a comfortable riding space with an ergonomic seat structure and outstanding packaging technologies. High-quality materials such as wood, leather and metal are used everywhere including the small detailed areas which come in contact with the hands, and the space was designed in driver- and passenger-focused manner with various premium convenience specifications such as a large capacity console box and electric sunshade. In particular, the Krell high-end audio system, adopted for the first time in the New Legend, provides a unique sound carrying presence that cannot be found in other cars of same class through 14 high-quality stereo speakers and amplifiers.
Jung woo-young, the Chief Executive of Honda Korea, said, “I have great expectations with the introduction of the New Legend in Korea for the first time in Asia, the legendary flagship and Honda's pride that has returned with a completely new look,” adding, “I hope many customers will get an opportunity to experience the outstanding quality of this premium sedan through its performance which proves the ‘Honda of Technologies.’”
