The new Honda Civic has earned the prestigious 2016 North American Car of the Year award (NACOTY).
“This award is acknowledgement that the new Civic is an exceptional car,” said Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins. “The Civic is a pillar of the Honda brand globally and this new model, which has been completely redesigned from the ground up, will make its way to our shores in the middle of this year. We can’t wait to bring this new Civic to our customers.”
This is the second win for the Civic in the award’s history, following its win in 2006. In total, eleven Honda models have been named finalists for the NACOTY since its inception in 1994, the most of any brand outside Detroit’s big three manufacturers.
The North American Car of the Year award is unique, because it is given by a group of 53 international automotive journalists from the United States and Canada rather than by a single publication, radio or television station.
“Civic is a cornerstone of the Honda lineup and we’re delighted that the automotive press has recognised the new levels of styling, performance, advanced technology, safety and value that characterise the new Civic,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division Senior Vice President and General Manager.
Presented each year at the opening of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the award recognises the most outstanding car of the year based on factors including innovation, design, safety performance, handling, driver satisfaction and value.
