San Pablo, Laguna – The Honda Foundation, Inc. (HFI) spearheaded a Tree Planting Activity, as Honda continues its “Road to 2020” program in partnership with Haribon Foundation and supported by the local government and residents of San Pablo Laguna and Dolores Quezon. True to Honda’s commitment of upholding global environment protection, the tree planting activity was carried out in Mount Banahaw and San Cristobal Protected Landscape in Sitio Calo, Barangay San Cristobal, San Pablo, Laguna.
The event was participated by Honda motorcycle riders, media friends, Haribon and volunteer-associates from the Honda group of companies - Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI), Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), Honda Parts Manufacturing Corporation (HPMC) and Honda Trading Philippines Ecozone (HTPE). As One Honda Team, Honda celebrated HFI’s 25th anniversary through its environmental conservation efforts that live up to Honda’s vision of being “a company that the society wants to exist”.
The activity started with a special message from Mr. Yamada, HPMC President, who emphasized Honda’s commitment to protect the environment and continuously provide “Blue Skies for our Children.” “It is Honda’s commitment to make every effort to contribute to human health and the preservation of the global environment in each phase of our corporate activity,” states Mr. Yamada, “only in this way will be able to count on a successful future not only for our company, but for the world.” With this, The Mt. Banahaw and San Cristobal Protected Landscape was chosen as the planting site, as it is not only a source of necessities for nearby communities but also home 28 species of birds, 18 of which can only be found in the Philippines. The presence of fauna is said to be a good indicator of a forest’s condition.
This message was followed by the demonstration of proper handling of seedlings by Haribon and a briefing on safety from Honda Safety Officers. All 300 participants reached the planting site after a 2 hour trek. Each participant was given 16 to 17 seedlings to plant. By the end of the activity, a total of 5,000 seedlings were planted, covering approximately 4 hectares of land.
The “Road to 2020” program is Honda’s commitment to plant 50,000 trees and cover more than 20 hectares of land in 10 years. This program started in year 2010 in collaboration with Haribon Foundation. Haribon is an organization that advocates environment conservation; originally established as a bird-watching society in 1972 until it became full-pledged conservation foundation in 1982. As of this writing, Honda’s tie-up with Haribon yielded a total of 40,000 trees covering approximately 30 hectares of land.
