Speaking at Honda Australia’s media conference today in Melbourne ahead of the Formula 1® season opener, Fernando Alonso said that it is very important to make 2016 a more positive year for the team.
“The McLaren-Honda partnership has been very successful in the past. With the facilities, engineers and talent in our team, it is just a matter of time. We want to win. It will be important for us to consolidate some of the processes in 2016 and 2017 is a big chance,” said Alonso.
Speaking about the Australian Grand Prix circuit, Fernando Alonso said he is looking forward to getting more laps under his belt in the new MP4-31 at Albert Park this weekend.
“We will have a good indication on where the team is at from Saturday’s qualifying, when all the cars are on track together for the first time. We’re really happy to be here and see how the car performs,” said Alonso.
Alonso was joined by Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins and Executive Chief Engineer and Head of Formula 1 Project from Honda R&D, Mr. Yusuke Hasegawa to discuss McLaren-Honda’s prospects ahead of the 2016 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
Mr. Hasegawa said the Australian Grand Prix is one of the most important races on the Formula 1 season calendar.
“The Australian Grand Prix is our first opportunity to prove we can do well and that we have improved” said Mr. Hasegawa.
Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins said Honda’s involvement with Formula 1 demonstrates commitment to being on the leading edge of innovation, and Honda Australia will demonstrate this to customers through the launch of the bold new tenth-generation Civic and highly anticipated NSX hybrid supercar.
The 2016 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix is held in Albert Park, Melbourne from Thursday, 17 to Sunday, 20 March 2016.
