Honda Vietnam holds the 9th Honda Young Engineer and Scientist Award Ceremony (Honda Y-E-S Award 2014)
 
Ha Noi, Vietnam - Honda Vietnam holds the Honda Young Engineer and Scientist Award Ceremony (Honda Y-E-S Award) 2014. This annual Award is held for excellent students of Engineering and Technology Universities nationwide, aiming to find and facilitate fostering young talents in Eco-technology field, prospective leaders in technology and engineering science, accelerating development of Science and Technology field in Vietnam. 
 
The Honda Y-E-S is implemented under cooperation of Honda Vietnam, Honda Foundation (Japan), National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies (NISTPASS) – Ministry of Science and Technology and 6 associated universities including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Engineering and Technology – Vietnam National University Hanoi, University of Science – Vietnam National University Hanoi, Hanoi University of Communications and Transport, Da Nang University of Science and Technology and Ho Chi Minh University of Science and Technology to hold the Ceremony. The total prize being worth USD 30,000 and 10 motorcycles manufactured by Honda Vietnam shall be granted to top 10 excellent awardees. Besides, these students will have opportunity to receive USD 10,000 Y-E-S Plus Award if attending a postgraduate course in Japan; or USD 7,000 Y-E-S Plus Award if being accepted and joining in internship program of Japanese universities, institutes or laboratories from 2.5 months to 1 year within 3 years of getting the Award.
 
The Ceremony is held with the participation of Mr. Tran Viet Thanh – Deputy Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan – Deputy Director of National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies, Mr. Ta Duc Thinh – Head of Science and Technology Department – Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Akira Goto – Executive Director of Honda Foundation, Mr. Yuzuri Matsuno – General Secretary of Honda Foundation, Mr. Minoru Kato – General Director of Honda Vietnam, Mr. Ho Manh Tuan – First Deputy General Director of Honda Vietnam, Mr. Kiwamu Kayano – Deputy General Director of Honda Vietnam, representatives of Education and Technology & Science brands, teachers representing 6 associated technologies, parents and students from such universities.
 
The Award was first held in Vietnam in March 2006 on the occasion of 10th anniversary of Honda Vietnam. So far, after 9 years of accompanying with Vietnamese students, Honda Y-E-S Award has witnessed impressive results with the total number of 733 dossiers and 90 excellent applicants honored at the annual Award Ceremony and 10 Y-E-S Plus students to apply postgraduate or internship in Japan.
 
Honda Y-E-S which is considered as one of the most prestigious Science and Technology Awards in Vietnam with strict selecting criteria has special meaning as a mark of endeavor in science study and research. Honda Y-E-S also plays an important role of a “launch pad” for young talents of the country in the start-up process afterwards.
 
Honda Y-E-S 2014 had been started from April and after 3 months, the Award Office received 114 dossiers from students among 6 associated universities who get high results for their studies and scientific researches. After passing dossier round, top 30 candidates would be chosen to enter Essay Writing and Interview rounds. The Essay topic this year is: “Compare advantages and disadvantages when developing eco-technology in transport vehicle manufacturing industry. If becoming a researcher/ planning manager, what is your action to promote such technology development?” When working in such new field, candidates showed their passion for learning, critical thinking as well as vision for new trend of technology and science. In Interview round, candidates had opportunity to express directly their confidence and personal abilities to Selection Board. After finishing 3 rounds, there were 10 excellent students chosen and honored to receive Honda Y-E-S Award 2014 includes: 02 students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, 05 students of University of Engineering and Technology – Vietnam National University Hanoi, 02 students of University of Science – Vietnam National University Hanoi and 01 student of Ho Chi Minh University of Science and Technology.
 
With the aim of inspiring dream for future generation of the country, Honda Vietnam always considers education development as one of the top priorities in development strategy of the company. Besides this Award, Honda Vietnam also carry out many other meaningful activities like the “Children’s Idea Contest” held annually for Primary students nationwide in the hope of fostering and encouraging children creation. Within the context of this program, Honda Vietnam has spent more than VND 2.1 billion on Honda Charity Fund in 2014. Accordingly, Honda Vietnam has sponsored to 700 poor students and 10 national standard libraries to 5 provinces, including Son La, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Dac Nong and Tra Vinh. Such activities are proof showing endless endeavors of Honda Vietnam to become a company that the society wants to exist.
